Edward and Genevieve MacLean Scholarships

In the spring of 2018, the Central High School district presented two new scholarships in honor of Edward and Genevieve MacLean. Both Ed and Gen graduated from Central High School during the Great Depression, and the MacLean scholarships represent a lifetime of commitment to both the school district and the community.

Backed by a $5,000 donation from the couple’s children (who all attended South), the scholarships were awarded to two students – one from Central High and the other from South High. The awards were based on academic performance as well as participation in their school and communities. The scholarship applicants were also required to write a 250-word essay describing their view of citizenship.

Central and South held their Seniors Award Ceremony on Monday, June 4th; and Wednesday, June 6th, respectively. The MacLean's daughter Peggy presented the Central High scholarship; the MacLean's son Richard presented the South High scholarship. Peggy's speech is linked below.
