Foster's Creek / Mott's Pond

Foster's Brook

Foster's Brook is also known as Mott's Creek. It's source is in North Woodmere (just south of Hungry Harbor Road). The brook originally crossed Mill Road into Gibson. It travelled northeast and crossed Rockaway Avenue, Sunrise Highway and even Merrick Road. It's mouth was just south of Franklin Avenue in North Valley Stream. The brook is named after Abraham S. Foster, a farmer in Gibson. Interestingly, there was an oil mill located on, or very close to his property. His son was J. Mansfield Foster ("Doc Foster"), Valley Stream's first physician. Ironically, Doc Foster, died suddenly of a heart attack in 1943, alongside the brook that bears his family's name.
