Who can sign up for the Valley Stream Seniors “Silver Threads” program?

If you are a resident of the Incorporated Village of Valley Stream and of the age of 55 or older you may sign up to become a member. There is no membership fee. Proof of residency and date of birth required.

When do the “Silver Threads” meet?

The senior program at the Community Center is 5 days a week: Mondays 1PM to 4pm, Tuesdays 10am to Noon, Wednesdays 11am to 4pm, Thursdays 1pm to 4pm, and Fridays 11am to 4pm. Below please find a list of activities:

Bingo
Knitting/Crocheting
Games: Domino’s, Mahjong, Rummikub and Chess
Card Games
Bus trips to Aqueduct, CVS, King Kullen and more
Monthly parties with live entertainment, music & dancing
Holiday celebrations

I am already a member of the “Silver Threads” how can I arrange to be picked up by the Valley Stream Senior bus in order to participate on the trips to Aqueduct, CVS, King Kullen, etc.?

Can Men sign up for the “Silver Threads”?

Absolutely!  The men can play cards, and participate in any of the other activities that the group may be involved with, including Trips, Games and socializing.


Do I need a parking sticker when “strictly” parking at the Community Center?

Yes. Once you sign up to become a Silver Thread, you will be given a Silver Threads parking sticker strictly for parking at the Community Center during program hours only.  Please keep in mind you will need to apply for a recreational parking sticker in order to park at other Valley Stream facilities.

Is the Community Center Handicap Accessible?

Yes, the Community Center is Handicap friendly.

Do you allow smoking or pets at the Community Center?

Smoking and pets are prohibited.
